BMW E92 335iS was only made for a total of three years. And while it never reached Europe, it sure got its fair share of popularity in North America. The vehicle was positioned between the regular
BMW 335i and the
M3 and produced in 4,500 units, approximately. The vehicle uses a higher-tuned version of the BMW N54 3.0 liter engine, with an increased boost from 8.7 to 11.6 psi (0.6 to 0.8 bar) delivers slightly more horsepower than the stock version. In this version of the 3 Series, the vehicle delivered 320 horsepower and 332 lb-ft (450Nm) of torque, which got up to a pretty good 370 lb-ft (507Nm) for up to seven seconds. The vehicle was offered with a 7-speed double-clutch transmission (DCT) with launch control or a 6-speed manual transmission. The manual transmission came with an upgraded clutch compared to the regular 335i.
Additional changes compared to the 335i include the stiffer engine mounts, a higher-flow exhaust system, an upgraded cooling system, a different steering wheel, sport seats, and "335is" badging on the dash and in the instrument cluster. For the exterior, the differences are larger air openings in the front bumper, a rear bumper that incorporates a diffuser-style piece, black kidney grills, and 18-inch or 19-inch "Style 313" wheels. In all, the BMW 335iS was a great predecessor to the BMW M340i models - slightly below the famed BMW M3 and M4, but providing impressive power levels and handling at the same time to the driver.
