Formula Drift 2022 - Orlando

June 1, 2022

A visit to Orlando proved magical for MOMO Motorsport and Forgestar as Driver Dylan Hughes registered his first-ever Formula DRIFT event win at Orlando Speedworld. That incredible victory was coupled with an impressive fourth-place finish by Forgestar/MOMO teammate Matt Field. Those exceptional performances came despite threatening weather conditions that—led by a tornado warning—that impacted the entire weekend’s competition.

“What a memorable weekend for Dylan and our entire team,” said Andres Cisneros, President of MW Company. “Both Dylan and Matt overcame challenges and obstacles to record impressive results. We’re hoping to continue that momentum those as we head to Elizabethtown for the next round.”

Qualifying in the sixth position in the FD PRO Round 3: Type S Scorched presented by AutoZone, Hughes took to the rain-soaked track against Italian Federico Scriffo, who failed to launch after misjudging the starting-line procedure. That advantage was all that Hughes needed to advance to the Top 16, where his competition, New Zealander Darren Kelly, was forced to retire due to damage resulting from a previous round collision.

A dry track, tornado warning conditions and a battle against Travis Reeder faced Hughes as he reached the Top 8. Eventually delayed by gusting winds and a thunderstorm, the two friends battled each other and the weather, with Hughes advancing to a top 4 showdown with Field. Taking an early lead in his BMW, Hughes made hard contact with Field’s Corvette, which eventually spun out in the first run. Despite a hard-charging effort by Field in the next run, the round would go to Hughes, earning him a final round battle with Chris Forsberg and his Nissan Z. Under a relentless downpour, both drivers declined a sighting lap, setting the stage for a winner-take-all run, with Hughes emerging victorious.

Riding that exhilarating win by Hughes and a fourth-place finish by Field, the MOMO Motorsport and Forgestar team heads to New Jersey’s Englishtown Raceway for the Formula DRIFT PRO Championship Round 4 on June 10 and 11.
